CTET SYLLABUS


Syllabus for paper I


Paper I consists of five sections
1.      Child Development and Pedagogy
2.      Mathematics
3.      Environmental studies
4.      Language I
5.      Language II
1. CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PEDAGOGY
THIS section contains 30 questions.
A.     CHILD DEVELOPMENT
15 question will be asked from this section. Concept to included in this section are:
o   Concept of development and its relationship with learning
o   Principles of the development of children
o   Influence of Heredity & Environment
o   Socialization processes: Social world & children (Teacher, Parents, Peers)
o   Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky: constructs and critical perspectives
o   Concepts of child-centered and progressive education
o   Critical perspective of the construct of Intelligence
o   Multi Dimensional Intelligence
o   Language & Thought
o   Gender as a social construct; gender roles, gender-bias and educational practice
o   Individual differences among learners, understanding differences based on diversity of
o   Language, caste, gender, community, religion etc.
o   Distinction between Assessment for learning and assessment of learning; School-
o   Based Assessment, Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation: perspective and practice
o   Formulating appropriate questions for assessing readiness levels of learners; for
o   enhancing learning and critical thinking in the classroom and for assessing learner
                          achievement.
B.      CONCEPT OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION AND UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
   5 questions will be asked from this section. Concept  included in this section are:

o    Addressing learners from diverse backgrounds including disadvantaged and deprived
o    Addressing the needs of children with learning difficulties, ‘impairment’ etc
o    Addressing the Talented, Creative, Specially abled Learners

C.     LEARNING AND PEDAGOGY
10 questions will be asked from this section. Topics included in this section are:

o   How children think and learn; how and why children ‘fail’ to achieve success in  school performance.
o   Basic processes of teaching and learning; children’s strategies of learning; learning as a social activity; social context of learning.
o   Child as a problem solver and a ‘scientific investigator’
o   Alternative conceptions of learning in children; understanding children’s ‘errors’ as significant steps in the learning process.
o   Cognition & Emotions
o   Motivation and learning
o   Factors contributing to learning- personal & environmental

2. MATHEMATICS
 This section will contain 30 questions.
      A)GENERAL MATHEMATICS
This section consists of 15 question and topic are:

• Addition and Subtraction
• Multiplication

• Nature of Mathematics/Logical thinking; understanding children’s thinking and reasoning patterns and strategies of making meaning and learning

• Evaluation through formal and informal methods
• Problems of Teaching
• Error analysis and related aspects of learning and teaching
• Diagnostic and Remedial Teaching


3. ENVIROMENTAL ISSUES:

A) CORE CONCEPT
 15 Questions will be asked from this section. And topics are

B) PEDAGOGICAL ISSUES
15 Questions will be asked from this section:

4. LANGUAGE I AND LANGUAGE II

As language section will check your basic understanding and pedagogical issues so both have same syllabus:
            A) LANGUAGE COMPREHENSION

15 Questions will be asked from this section and it contains two unseen passages one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific , narrative or discursive)
          
             B) PEDAGOGY OF LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
15 Questions will be asked from this section and topics are:
• Learning and acquisition
• Principles of language Teaching
• Role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use it as a tool
• Critical perspective on the role of grammar in learning a language for communicating
ideas verbally and in written form
• Challenges of teaching language in a diverse classroom; language difficulties, errors
and disorders
• Language Skills
• Evaluating language comprehension and proficiency: speaking, listening, reading and
writing
• Teaching-learning materials: Textbook, multi-media materials, multilingual resource of
the classroom
• Remedial Teaching.

CTET,ctet,teacher eligibity test


In order to ensure quality education being provided under Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) had laid some minimum eligibility criteria for appointment as teacher in class I-VIII.

To test these MINIMUM eligibity government conducts TEACHER ELIGIBILITY TEST (TET). To be a teacher, candidate has to qualify TET examination.

This test is conducted by central government and state government. Central government conduct TET named as CENTRAL TECHEAR ELIGIBILITY TEST ( CTET)and Which is conducted by C.B.S.E.
State government conduct’s test named as UP TET, BIHAR TET, etc.

ELIGIBILITY for the CTET:

Minimum Qualifications for Classes I-V: Primary Stage

  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

  • OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with
    the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.
  • OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

  • OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).

  • OR
  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education
    (by whatever name known).
Minimum Qualification for Classes VI-VIII: Elementary Stage


  • Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by
    whatever name known).

  • OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education
    (B.Ed).

  • OR
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education
    (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued
    from time to time in this regard.

  • OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

  • OR
  • Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final
    year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

  • OR
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special
    Education).

Structure of CTET examination:

It consists of two paper I and paper II. Paper I is for class I-V and Paper II is for VI-VIII.

 Structure for Paper I:

  1. Child development and pedagogy
  2. Language I
  3. Language II
  4. Mathematics
  5. Environmental studies
Each section will contain 30 question carrying one marks each. (Total 150 question).
Paper I will be compulsory paper.
There is no negative marking.

Structure of Paper II.

  1. Child development and pedagogy
  2. Language I
  3. Language II
  4. Mathematics and science for mathematics and science teacher. OR Social sciences for social studies teacher.
All section will have 30 questions of one mark each. Except section IV which contain 60 question.
There is no negative marking.
Note: language I and Language II are the following languages

Garo
Gujarati
Kannada
Khasi
Malayalam
Manipuri
Mizo
Nepali
Oriya
Punjabi
Sanskrit

Candidate have to chose two among the following list.


Qualifying marks and CTET certificate:
Minimum qualifying marks for the examination is 60% percentage. That is you should have 90 correct answerer out of 150 questions.


Uses of CTET certificate:
If anybody wants to be teacher in school funded and controlled by central government. Candidates need this certificate. Centrally funded schools are KV’s, navodaya vidhyalaya, etc
This certificate will be valid for 7 years!!!!!
